Townhall Meeting - 14th of Melting
Mayor Baugh called a meeting of the entire town today to discuss the recent events which has shaken the quiet mountain community.
Recent days have had a Hobgoblin and his wolves harassing and attacking foresters and woodsmen in the Whispering Woods. On top of that a warband of Kobolds has been attacking travellers coming into and out of the valley. These Kobolds were also responsible for some of the thefts and vandalism experienced by folks at the edge of town.
Townsfolk have expressed their anxiety and concern over the safety of the town and want to know what can be done about this.
The Mayor told them that Constable Varuin and Mr. Enin were able to interrogate the prisoner captured by the Regulators. From these interrogations they have determined that there is a force at work trying to keep people from the Whispering Woods. This force is comprised of more Kobolds and other fell creatures like Gnolls. No one yet knows who or what this evil force actually is. Pyril left several days to investigate further the happenings of the woods but has not returned.
Several townsfolk have brought up the idea of leaving the valley and heading south, while others talked about setting up armed watch towers at the Western border of town.
Others offered the idea of trying to negotiate with the person/people responsible to see if a peaceful solution could be found.
Rothlas Kakal yelled at the end of the meeting that an armed party should be sent into the woods to clear the vermin out. At the mention of this, all eyes seemed to drift towards the gathered Regulators sitting near the front by the mayor.
The Mayor at this point opened the floor up to the Regulators to see if they had any thoughts on what could/should be done.
"What say you Regulators?"

Sorry, I dozed off there. What were you saying Caurus?
Hm, no matter...
Well, I am no expert in martial affairs. As such, I cannot advise as to whether patrols should be setup or if a new armed watch tower should be established.
Since the Druid, Pyril has not returned in several days, I would assume his situation has been compromised by our adversaries.
I am concerned that the last two events were conspired by Kritchnor to delay anyone investigating his presence and his plan. It is obvious from the letter found in the cave of the Hobgoblin, Zagmet that he was to harass the woodsmen & residence of Grey's Deep and keep everyone out of the Whispering Wood. It is also apparent and not just a coincidence, I believe, that the raids by the kobolds were also a part of this plan to distract us.
Therefore, I believe the Regulators should seek out the Dryad Nepharil. As an ally of Pyril, she may offer us some insight as to the disappearance of Pyril. She may even know the location of the kobolds, gnolls and whatever else that lay within the Whispering Woods.
Again, to the matter of protecting Grey’s Deep while we investigate the Whispering Woods, I cannot advise. Perhaps Vig or one of the scouts, Brannic or Jode can offer some advice.
(Brannic looks from his left to his right to see if either Jode or Vig care to add anything to the conversation)
As none of you know Sylvan and some of you may hinder relations with Nepharil (*cough* Caurus *cough*), I would like to be the one speaking with her.
I think the idea of patrols around the outskirts of the town is a good idea, but there is a lot of ground to cover. We may want to look at building some sort of wall or fence to make patrolling easier.
You mean our town doesn't have a wall around it? Aren't we basically surrounded by Giants, Trolls, and other evil humanoids?
I swear I saw a wall around our fair town before...
Where the heck are my glasses? Caurus, did you remove that strap thingy you made for me, cuz I keep losing my glasses again?!?
Seraph,
Perhaps you were mistaking the Mountains as a wall of stone around the town. The town has always been open to travellers and no wall was ever constructed.
However, with recent events I think maybe we need to build something to make the patrols easier. It doesn't have to be much, it could be simple high wooden fence.
What do you all think?
-Brannic
What!?! Somebody please help me find my glasses! I can't believe I've mistaken the mountains for a wall around the town.
Well, Brannic, if you say there is no wall, I guess I'll have to believe you.
I'm no martial expert but I'd say a wall would be a good thing. How long would it take to properly construct something like this, weeks, months?
Caurus, are those my glasses by your tankard of ale?
Regulators,
Well if all able bodied people pitched in I bet we could be most of it done by the end of the TenDay.
This would give Pyril more time to return and report on anything he may have found.
Also since Seraph is too old for this kind of thing he could go talk with the Dryad to get some answers if he wishes.
-Brannic
Oh yea, here are my glasses! (Seraph fumbles briefly grabbing his glasses resting on his head).
Thanks Caurus. That strap thing is quite nice. Oh and although I appreciate your offer to be my bodyguard, I think I will manage just fine. The woodsmen haven't reported any new problems in the area where Nepharil resides.
Besides, you're strong and young and would do well to help the town construct this elusive town wall.
Now that I can see, I have to confirm this wall thing...
Seraph,
You know, maybe you should take an escort of some kind with you. In order to get to the woods to see Nepharil you'll have to pass by the old ambush site where we stomped the Kobolds a couple of days back.
If there are more out there you might get into some trouble.
Just an observation.
(whispers into Seraph's ear - "You don't have to take the kid you know")

I apolize for being so silent as I have been listening to my inner voice on this matter.
::: stepping onto podium:::
Fellow townsfolk...The teachings of Lathandar have taught me that we should remain positive and optismistic on this matter. This mighty town of "Grey's Deep" has dealt with many difficult challenges over time and this may yet be one more challenge we will need to meet head on.
I ask that you remain confident in the Regulators and in Grey's Deep. But I must ask that we proceed with wisdom before acting and going in 10 differnt directions. There is strength and unity in numbers and in the Regulators. I suggest the Regulators help fortify the town walls quickly and put appropriate guards men at the proper locations after it is complete.
If these outlanders are truly evil we will deal with them swiftly and vanguish their homebases.
Remember, the teachings of Lathandar give us all hope that a new day of hope will be back upon us on very soon.

:::: stepping down from podium::::
:::as Jellen steps down from podiaum, hears a crunching noise::::
Hey what was that crunching noise, hmmmm looks like a pair of eye glasses. Oh well, they look like some old dude's glasses which.. er... wait I mean... look Seraph I think I found your glasses.
Hey Vig, you around anywhere?
Could you craft some leather armor for me... err well not directly for me but a friend I know. Yeah, his name is Gruff the old. He is a begger down that hangs out from time to time near the Inn I have been working at. I think he wishes to get in on some of the action going on around town lately. I told him I could help him out and help get him started with some equipment and goods. Well once I find some goods and equipment to donate to him he will be ready to help the town out. Oh by the way I won't be able to pay you anything but I told Gruff that the Regulator's are willing to help out any good soul that wants to join in the efforts to save the town?
What say you Vig, you are being so quiet which is quite unusal!
Jode, good to see you could make it to the town hall meeting, seems like you are always coming from that back room with a different lady each time. You really like those taller women eh? Maybe a Vow of Abstinence would help cleanse your soul of those devious ways.
To catch you up on the discussion....we were just discussing how the Regulator's are going to help restore hope to Grey's Deep and help build up fortifications for the town wall and then seek advice from the Dryad. Seraph as ususual is having problems with his glasses again.
Jellen,
Did you want to escort Seraph into the woods to talk with the Dryad while the rest of us work on the fence?
Brannic
Well when I originally spoke I thought we needed to be united in our efforts, don't you remember that heroic speech I made on the podium to the whole town hall? ::: scratches bald head curiously ::::
I was thinking that all of us needed to help fortify the town first and then as a group go visit the Dryad. Do you think we need to be more expiditious and visit the Dryad while all the wall building is going on? If yes, then Seraph and I can go do that, but Caurus may have a disgruntled word about this and I was trying to keep the kid and old man from arguing again.
Jellen,
Since Seraph won't be able to assist in the fence building I think it makes sense to have him and an escort go talk to the Dryad. I don't think we need to wait until the fence is complete to gather some information.
I have a feeling nothing you do will keep those two from arguing. I sense this is going to happen more often than not.
Those are my thoughts on this.
-Brannic
Yes, you are probably right Brannic, those two will always find a way to argue with each other.
Hey Seraph, get your gear together so we can head out right away as we should get moving soon if we are to get to the Dryad during day-light. By the way can you bring some of those tasty trail rations you always seem to have as I am quite hungry already.
At this point, Mayor Baugh steps in and clears his throat.
"Well it seems like the Regulators have come up with a splendid idea. Starting tomorrow, all able bodied people should meet at the local saw mill. From there we'll see what we can do about getting started on building the fence around the Western part of town."
Turning to look at the Regulators...
"Seraph and Jellen, we all wish you luck and safe journey into the woods to see what you can discover. We will eagerly await your safe return."
Turning back to the crowd...
"The fence will be a costly item and we all may need to make some sacrifices in order to make it work. Any and all financial assistance will be greatly appreciated. The Lumber Mill I know can't give us all the wood for free and the woodsmen and blacksmiths will be very busy keeping the Mill running at full capacity to make this project
work. The City Council will begin work immediately planning the implementation of this plan."
"Thank you all again for coming tonight!"
At this point the Mayor and City Council depart through the back of the town hall. The rest of the town begins slowly milling out the back. You can hear murmurs of hope mixed with caution.
::: Turning to Caurus as the meeting disperses :::
I don't think the rest of the town heard what I said to you earlier. I wasn't standing at the podium addressing the town; I was directly addressing you, no one else. Do you think you’re overreacting just a little?
::: Mumbling to self "...at least I think I wasn't standing at the podium..." :::
