30th of Kythorn - Rebuilding
Over the past several tendays, the peaceful folks of Grey's Deep have been hard at work repairing the damage done by the strange "rain of rocks". It has taken them all month, but now all the wooden buildings have either been successfully repaired or rebuilt from the ground up.
The necessary wood for these projects and the demand from the fence project has stressed the lumbermill to its limit. It is currently down for repairs. This has set the expected docks repairs back until next spring. The fishermen aren't happy about this, but they understand where the priorities are. For now, they'll make due with the boat landing near the southern edge by the river. The docks have been roped off and people are warned not to go near them.
Not all the buildings are fully repaired from the damage however. The Temple of Lathander was constructed primarily out of stone and mortar. The damage done from the boulders severely damaged sections of the church and parts had to be levelled for safety. The most affected areas were the living quarters and meditation chambers for the priests. Luckily, the altar and communal area were mostly spared from the assault and were made available to the public almost immediately. It has taken the entire month of Kythorn to rebuild the damaged foundations and outer walls. Oddly, the Priests have recently forbade anyone from assisting with the reconstruction efforts located inside. They claim it is the will of Lathander that they tend to it themselves. With enough work to do already, the townsfolk are more than happy to let them handle this project on their own.
In other news, the town jailhouse has been rebuilt, and reinforced. Deputy Makus Donhelm was officially sworn in as the new town Sheriff today. Until recently he was acting as the temporary Sheriff until the City Council made a decision on who Jacer Varuin successors would be. With the Jailhouse now complete, they felt it was a good time to make the news official.
Enin Rayod (the town alchemist and scribe) and Seraph have spent many hours during the past month looking over the rocks, trying to decern how they fell from the sky. Their research has shown that no magical aura was detected on any of them and all were roughly shaped and not machined. They did find on some of the larger pieces 3 long grooves carved out on one side, but they aren't sure if this is natural or not.
Jode and Vig led parties into the nearby hillsides to see if they could determine what happened. After several days of searching, they found a rockslide about a mile up the trail headed south into the mountains. This rockslide appeared to have large boulders torn from them. It is believed that the rocks which fell from the sky, came from this rockslide. How, is another question that is yet unanswered.
The town also greeted the return of Caurus and Jellen from their mysterious training in the forest. Both looked extremely tired yet seemed to show a greater confidence in themselves. After a short exchange of words, they ushered Jode and Vig off for their turn with Nimbus.
All in all, things have been very quiet and calm in the past 30 days. No one is sure if this trend will continue, but all are hoping it will.

Upon returning to town Jellen speaks:
"What has happened to our town! The...the..the...Temple of Lathander... has been devastated, how tragic. My dreams from Lathandar spoke to me and about something bad that had happened while I was training with Nimbus. I prayed that this was just a passing dream and now it turns out it is true.

:::Seraph approaches Caurus and Jellan upon their return:::
Welcome back, friends. It is good to see you both. I hope your martial exercises proved to be providential.
Jellan, no worries about the temple my brother. As the Morninglord teaches us, each morning is a chance for renewal and better things to come. After all, the morning sun is the ever presence of Lathander and nothing can destroy that.
My friends, I traveled with Jode and Brannic to see Birchnor. During our visit with the old birch, we discovered that there are or were four good dragons in the area. Two of them, a brass and silver, met their end at the hands of Kritchnor and her minions. Apparently, this Krithnor has a certain keenness for good dragons that is less then desirable.
Birchnor was friends with both and particularly the brass dragon. I told him we would return the brass dragon horns so that he may see to a burial of his young friend. In addition, if we return the silver dragon skull and the silver dragon bracers, Birchnor we look favorably upon us. Beyond that, I believe it is the right thing to do for our new ally and friend, Birchnor.
So, Caurus, what do you think?
Most generous of you Vig! I know that Birchnor will be encouraged by our act of selflessness. Indeed, Birchnor may even begin to believe that there is hope for humanity and dwarves.
I agree, I think our next mission should be to seek out Sisivril’s lair. Of course, we should do this with great caution. Anyone approaching a dragon’s lair, whether for ill or good, is looked upon with great suspicion.
Let's discuss it more when you return from your trial with Nimbus.
It's your choice Caurus, I can't force you. The main thing I would like from you is the brass dragon horn. Knipnally, the brass dragon was a good friend of Birchnor’s and it means something to him to have all six horns returned. Whether it’s magical, useful or whatever to us doesn’t matter. What matters is how it affects one of our most valuable allies and hopefully friend. Birchnor will look favorably on all of us if we return all of the dragon type items for a proper burial.
One other point to consider, if you continue to walk around with the skull of a silver dragon on your head you may be seen as something you are not, a dragon slayer. Although that might sound exciting to you, I seriously doubt you or any of us want that sort of attention right now. Consider this, if we journey to Sisivril’s lair, the silver dragon may see you as a threat. The dragon may attack us without notice if we approach his location. At this point, the skull, in my opinion, will do us more harm then good.
With all this said, it is simply up to you. I cannot force you.
Whatever your decision, will you accompany me to see Birchnor to return the dragon horn and bracers? I need a strong arm and a keen eye to guide me on my journey to his grove.
If it matters to you that the "cow" people will be offended, then by all means give up the practice of leatherworking. But do it because it matters to you, not out of spitefulness.
I guess it's fine if you consider the young green we killed as a validation of your status. I was only trying to make the point that you and those you associate with probably don't want the title of dragon slayer while you're wearing a silver dragon skull.
:::Handing the dragon skull and horn back to Caurus:::
Perhaps you should be the one to give your skull and horn back to Birchnor. I would advise diplomacy, however, when talking to him. Of course, that's just my experience talking. I'm sure you have everything already figured out. Maybe you should tell him why you should keep your dragon skull and horn. I’m sure he’ll understand.
By the way, things, like this dragon skull, or your sword, do not give you purpose. Your god, Caurus and your soul give you purpose. Listen carefully; you might hear Shaudukal speaking to you on the whispering wind. Shaundukal can be as turbulent as a storm and as calm as a summer breeze. The wisdom is in knowing when to be turbulent and when to be calm.
I can be ready for the journey out to the grove in the morning. If that will give you enough time.
:::Turning to Jellan:::
Would you like to accompany Caurus and me tomorrow morning? Your company would be very much appreciated. I will have plenty of food and drink for both of us.
Seraph, if you are looking for an escort I'd be happy to accompany you as well. I certainly don't need this horn and knowing what we know now, I'm not sure I feel comfortable carrying it.
... Now a Red Dragon horn, that's a different story.
-Brannic
Brannic, oh sorry, I didn't see you there. I think my glasses need some tweaking again.
:::Seraph removes his glasses and pulls out a soft cloth from his pocket. While gently cleaning them he mutters in Celestial:::
I thought he gave his horn to Birchnor already. I wonder if Jode still has his too. I have to keep track of this stuff...
:::Putting his glasses back on, Seraph continues:::
Why don't you accompany us as well, Brannic? Your scouting ability will be a great asset as well as Caurus' sword arm and Jellan's wisdom.
Seraph,
As usual, I'm more than happy to come along.
I'm not sure if Jode gave you his horn before leaving. It sounds like Vig left his horn and bracers for us before he took off.
-Brannic
Hey Caurus, why don't you take a breath for a moment and let me explain to you what I meant.
First of all, it was a joke. Apparently your hearing isn't so good with those bones on your head.
Secondly, to me, wearing a trophy representing a hard fought battle to me is acceptable. I'm not offended by body parts from animals. I see that sort of thing all the time. I am a buther by trade after all so there isn't much I haven't seen like this.
Finally, the reason I didn't feel comfortable with carrying that horn was Birchnor's reaction. I know you weren't there so please indulge me. I'd rather try and be on that big leafy boy's good side as opposed to his bad. The look he gave when looking at those horns was not one I'd like to see again. I don't think it's wise to piss off the guy who seems in charge of the woods to our North. Know what I mean?
So, there is my response. No heavy talk about Good or Evil. Just my view of what's going on.
Do what you want with your skeletal headpiece kid.
--Brannic
:::Seraph turns to Caurus, speaking firmly but kindly:::
I'm certainly glad you know your purpose, however, it seems you need to learn something about respect. That includes a respect for the dead.
Birchnor is showing his friends proper respect. I know you may not see that because your moral grounds are blurred. If you deem Birchnor a worthy ally and potential friend, then perhaps you should honor his request.
No matter how powerful you might think you are, there is always someone stronger, quicker, and smarter. Don't let your pride get the best of you young Caurus or it will be your undoing.
My fellow friends. These material possessions are getting the best of your thinking. If you only knew that making an oath of poverty releases you from the burdens of these insequential material possessions. These material possessions are what drive much of the evil in this world. If you agree now to relinquish yourselves from these material possessions right now, drop all of your items of wealth to the ground. I will help you in this transition. The morning lord Lathandar will help bring a new day of renewal to you by taking this oath.
I say to you... set yourself FREE!
What say all of you?
::: looks to Caurus, Seraph, Brannic for a response::::
