22rd of Eleasis - A Meeting with the Abbott

The Abbott was very surprised when the Regulators emerged from the tunnel beneath the Church in such ragged shape.

The acolytes quickly assited the party out of the tunnel and onto nearby cots. There they began tended to their wounds. During this time, the Abbott discussed their findings below ground and seemed quite disturbed by what they had encountered.

"Now that the area is clear however, a full investigation of the area will begin immediately. The Regulators are to be rewarded for their efforts on the behalf of the church. We are deeply grateful for your assistance in this matter. As I said before, we will offer our services to anyone of you, up to 2,000 GP worth of value."

The Abbott fumbles around in his robes for a moment and pulls forth a letter.

"It would seem that the Church of Lathander in Waterdeep seems to know that our little town has been having its difficulties. They are dispatching a Bishop and his entourage to investigate some of the strange things going on around here. He should be arriving in about 2 TenDays. I'm not sure if he knows about what you just found here or not, but his arrival will be a surprise to the entire town."

With that the Abbott quickly stands back up and begins casting some additional healing and blessing spells upon members of the party. Within minutes, all the wounds and bruises have been healed and the party is left with a relaxed and revitalized feeling.

"You may rest here for as long as you wish and feel free to leave at any time." As he bows before the group he notices the staff cap on Seraph's weapon. He seems a bit taken aback by it.

"I saw that weapon in one of my visions. Handled by some awful scaly beast. But oddly there were 2 ends to it. One of Air and one of Water. I think it is a sign that you of all people have come into it's posession Seraph. I am not fully aware of it's significance, but I feel you must safeguard this item at all costs."

With that, the Abbott again nods to the party and quickly departs, leaving them to rest on the cots and get some rest.

:::Addressing the Abbott and the Regulators:::

I am uncertain as of yet but I believe this hidden arcane outpost was probably of Netherese in origin. However, since I am not all too familiar with the language of Netherese I cannot be exact.

I believe it was Vig who estimated the structure at around a thousand years. That would put it around the same timeframe as the Nethiril Empire. That information along with the Air Staff Cap of Tavspur would suggest the same thing since the Staff of Tavspur was found near the ruins where Nimbus was found.

Nevertheless this information is still a bit sketchy. I think we have to possibly courses at this point. Go back to the ruins where Nimbus is and ask him some more questions. Perhaps he'll even teach me the ancient language of the Netheril.

However, the threat of Kritchnor is ever-present in my opinion. Therefore, I think it would be beneficial for us to seek out Birchnor again.

As you all may recall, we set free the Silver Dragon named Sisivril about 3 tendays ago. I think we should see if Sisivril made it to Birchnor and if there is any new information as to the whereabouts of Kritchnor. Let's try not to be reactive to what Kritchnor does to us and instead be active in pursing her.

Abbott Tolar, you spoke of a vision of some scaly creature holding this staff.

:::Seraph holds out the Staff of Tavspur for all to see:::

Perhaps this scaly being is a minion of Kritchnor's or maybe even Kritchnor herself. I hope your vision is not one of the future. But with my fellow Regulators by my side, I can trust that it will be protected against the vile beast from your dream.

So, what do you think Regulators?

:::Pondering Vig's comments for a moment:::

You have unusual insight for a Dwarf. You are both stalwart and wise beyond your years dwarf friend. But you should remain positive as with each new sunrise a new set of opportunities awaits us and nothing is too dark that the sun cannot purge.

I too am concerned that the church would be sending a bishop to our seemingly trivial little village. Indeed, there is probably more happening then we are aware of as you speak of Vig. I am not one prone to conspiracies and so do not propose that the church would hide anything. Instead, I think, we should remain optomistic. The fact that the church in Waterdeep is sending such a high ranking official should be a sign of favor and confidence. I believe with the bishops arrival we shall all learn the truth.

Nevertheless, let us seek the great birch of the Wispering Woods and hear his coucil. Perhaps this information can be of significant use to the bishop. And, as you suggest Vig, if the Abbott is in concurance, we should meet the bishop in route to Grey's Deep in order to offer some assistance and protection.

:::Seraph addresses the Regulators milling about:::

I need to do a little research and begin scribing more healing scrolls. The last few encounters sapped most of my resources. When you all come to a decision, please seek me out as I will want to join you.

:::Seraph begins to make his leave but stops a moment and re-addresses the Regulators once more:::

I realize it may be close to a ten day before we head out. So, in the meantime, if any of you decide to head back to the dwarf encampment to collect arms or armor, could you pick up my dastana's? Talk to you soon my friends.

:::With that, Seraph takes his leave and heads back to his study:::

Brannic scratches his head and says, "If I remember what Dernin said when we left, Seraph's Dastanas and Rohavic's armor should be ready in a couple days. Though I think Rohavic needed to spend a couple extra days fine tuning the details of special crest that was being placed on his armor."

Brannic pulls off his backpack and slowly pushes his hand through a large gash in the side and shakes his head.

"I think we should all take stock on our situation in the meantime. That battle underground took quite a toll out of all of us. It might be a good idea to spend the next couple of days getting things in order and see family and friends in town. I have a feeling we'll be heading out quickly enough."

Tossing the backpack to the ground with his other damaged equipment, he shrugs and says, "This shouldn't take too long to clean up. Seraph, let me know when you are ready and I'll be set to head out with you."

:::Meanwhile back at Seraph's study, Seraph contemplates the Staff of Tavispur and the vision of the Abbott.:::

This staff has me troubled. If the Abbott's vision is a premonition then perhaps it would be wise to destroy it before it falls into the hands of evil. I think perhaps I should investigate what this staff is before I do anything else.

:::With that, Seraph pulls down some old tomes of ancient lore and begins poring over them. Later, he begins a prayer to Lathander that activates a spell channeling the insight of the Morning Lord. He toils on into the night hoping the new dawn will bring answers.:::

After hours of searching through dusty tomes and spells of arcane lore, Seraph is able to learn some fragments about it's last known owner and some of the item's purported power.

"The Staff appears to be the work of a powerful Mage named Tavspur. Tavspur was apparently a human Wizard who existed at least up till the collapse of the Netheril empire. Seraph was unable to find any recorded information about him after the Phaerrim attacked the Netherise."

Flipping through more notes, Seraph was able to uncover more details about Tavspur's history.

"His reported mentor was an unnamed Arch-Mage who apparently setup an Arcane Academy somewhere in the valley in which Grey's Deep now resides. Tavspur apparently had a reputation for crafting intricate puzzle spells of locking, blocking and warding. Often mixing physical as well as magical keys, deciphering his Puzzles were a great pasttime for many of the Wizards at the time. He was known to have created a handful of puzzle spells which no existing Archmage was able to solve."

Seraph continues reading the dusty pages in another tome to learn more.

"Tavspur was described as a relatively peaceful fellow of even temperment. He was known to have created several different magical items, including a couple of different Staves. The staff now in Seraph's possession apparently was his favorite. This particular staff was reported to possess significant power over the elements. Specifically, it was reputed to be able to tap directly into the basic elements of both Air\Electricity and Water\Cold. The staff supposedly allowed Tavspur to ride the winds with the winged creatures of the mountains and also allow him to dive deep beneath the ancient lake at the foot of the mountain."

As Seraph examines the base of the staff, he notices that quite a few of the runes carved into the wood have been chipped off or damaged. Presumably the result of many years of wear and erosion. The damage does appear to be repairable with a Make Whole spell. The magical energy of the Identification spell seems to indicate a latent ability to channel electricity is suppressed due to the damage of the runes. Once the runes are repaired, the staff should be able to tap into that primal electricity and charge the staff. This will allow the wielder to cast Shocking Grasp an unlimited number of times a day as if he were a 5th level Wizard (i.e. Max 5d6 Electrical damage). To activate the spell requires a Standard action.

As Seraph leans back and strecthes, he has a nagging suspicion that more powers are buried beneath the surface of this item, but for now, remain just out of his reach.

:::Seraph stands and stretches his somewhat crooked back from hours of studying:::

I think I need a break from all of this. I'll have to stop by the inn and see what the family is up to after a good rest. Maybe mom will whip me up a batch of her homemade Rothe stew.
