30th of Eleasis - Ambush at the Bridge!

Villagers awoke to a surprising scene this morning as the Merchant Tragidor arrived into camp. His wagon train was reportedly attacked by a group of Kobolds near the stone bridge several hours outside of town.

The Regulators were quick to investigate matters. After routing another ambush at the bridge they followed the vermin through the swamp and came across a warren they had constructed. Using a captured informant they were able to sneak into the encampment and chase off their leader, a creature named Neknari. With their leader gone, the remaining Kobolds quickly dispersed and promised to not return.

In searching through the personal affects of Neknari, they discovered several letters from what appears to be Neknari's master. One of the letters contains the following.

Neknari,

The Regulators are the only thing keeping town together. Kill them and the village will collapse. You are to take the 2 dozen Kobolds warriors along with 7 handpicked Soldiers with you. Build up your base and protect yourselfs. Once entrenched, gather information on the local area and find your chokepoints. At the best chokepoint, attack the Merchant Caravan and inflict as much damage as you can to get them to flee. This should bring the Regulators to you. Wait for them and ambush them with your forces. Do not them them lightly. They have proven to be a hardy thorn in our sides for quite some time. They even managed to kill Kressenak in the old ruins. If for some reason you cannot defeat them, leave your Kobolds behind and return here as fast as you can. If you can't handle this, then we'll need to deal with things more directly and permanently.

Signed,

Z

26th of Eleasis - A Discussion with the Abbot

The next day, Jellen, Jode and Brannic waited to speak with Abbott Toler following the afternoon mass.

One of the Adepts ushered the Regulators into the Abbotts study and instructed them to wait. After a few minutes Abbott Toler entered the room. He quickly removed his ceremonial vestments and hung them on a nearby stand as he moved around his desk to sit in front of the waiting men.

"Thank you for coming Gentlemen. I appreciate your discrection in this matter." Toler said with a warm smile.

"The reason I have asked you here is to reveal to you some of the information we have uncovered so far in the ruins below. I wanted you to get this as soon as we were able to verify what we found."

Toler leans over and unlocks one of his drawers with a key suspended around his neck. From the drawer he pulls a small stack of parchment. He spreads the pieces of parchment across the desk for Jellen, Jode and Brannic to see. On the paper are several drawings of what appear to be banners fluttering in the wind and a floating city crashing down. Along with the pictures are several arcane symbols along with some writing in a language no one there seems to understand.

After giving the Regulators a moment to review the documents Toler begins to speak again.

"From what we have been able to determine, the ruins below were used as some sort of spying outpost. The spies were gathering information and sending what they found to their masters. So far from what we can gather, it seems that the spies were ordered to catalogue the entire valley and report back whatever they found. There seemed to be a particular interest in what the local Netherise Archmage was up to. We were not able to determine all the writings. Some of the tomes were in very poor condition and it has taken quite a while to restore them to the point where they could be read. Our divination magic has revealed the contents of some of these books, but others seem to defy our ability to read them. To that end, I had a scribe transcribe the images we were able to recover and also note the text we were not able to decipher. My hopes are that you and your comrades will fare better than we have."

He wipes a bead of sweat from his brow.

"I must tell you that even though this information is quite old it is also quite detailed. Some of the other books we started restoring last night contained images which I find very disturbing. I'm hoping to discuss this further with the Bishop once he arrives. In the meantime, I do not wish to frighten the townsfolk. Until we know if this discovery contains a threat to this town I think it is best if we keep this investigation as quiet and discrete as possible. I have not even mentioned this to the Mayor or Council yet."

With that Toler, fills the cup sitting on his desk with water from a cistern and quickly drains it.

"These papers are yours to take with you. Now then, I'm sure you gentlemen have some questions you'd no doubt like to ask of me?"
